HOW DO WE USE SPIRITUAL MAPPING?

Spiritual mapping is often used as a confirmation of things we have already seen in the Spirit. When our warfare strategy has been confirmed from several sources, we can then move on with greater boldness. If the Lord reveals to us the name of the strongman of a city, it needs to be confirmed from the Scripture and from history. If the strongman has been around for hundreds of years, he has certainly left his footprints in the history and the geography of the city. Everything we need to know about our enemy and his troops is also revealed in the Bible.

We use spiritual mapping when we plan our prayer strategy. What kind of prayer weapons shall we use? What is the character of the battlefield? In what order shall we deal with the prayer issues? Confession must come before the warfare. First we cancel the invitations to the strongman before we can command him to leave. Research helps us with timing and places to visit. Spiritual mapping also shows who should be involved. When we deal with the slave trade issue, for example, we invite representatives of the nations that were involved in slave trade to repent on behalf of their nations. On the occasion when we dealt with the Spanish Inquisition issue, I invited a direct descendent of a Jewish family who was expelled from Spain to participate with the team.

We are not in bondage to our research. We do not use all the material prepared by eager researchers. David had five stones when he met Goliath on the battlefield, but he only used one of his sharp stones to conquer the giant. We need the highest precision of aim to hit the enemy at his most vulnerable point. Wisdom in battle is to win the victory without wasting ammunition.

When we have done research and present our spiritual mapping to the elders of the city I usually ask: “Have you dealt with these things previously in prayer?” We do not want to repeat what pastors and churches have already done. We once went to pastors in the city of Berlin and asked: “Have you dealt with the blood guilt on this city considering that World War II started in Berlin and caused the death of millions of people?”

“We have never thought about it, and we have never heard anyone confess this blood guilt in the church,” was the answer we received.

Sometimes the mapping uncovers previously unknown facts about areas we have already prayed about. That gives us greater freedom to deal with the area on a new level of understanding.

Daniel knew that the time had come for him to intercede for the release of his people after he discovered the prophetic promise of release after 70 years of captivity in Babylon. The Lord demonstrates His might by setting time limits on the evil powers.
